Clean windows with a solution of 1/2 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to a bucket of warm water. ·If necessary, dust off the window and sill with a clean paintbrush. Excess dust and water can cause mud. Don't clean windows while they are in direct sunlight. Your cleaning solution will dry too fast. Too hot of a day will cause windows to streak. This is the best time to vacuum the frames and sills. Cool, clear water is the choice of most professional window washers. If windows are very dirty you can add 2 to 3 tablespoons of vinegar per gallon of water. For drying windows, a wad of crumpled newspaper works just as well as expensive paper towels. Wear rubber gloves to keep your hands free of ink. -Shine windows with a newspaper. It's cheap and easy. For a really fine shine, after the windows are dry, rub a clean blackboard eraser over them. Dry windows outside in one direction and inside in the other direction. If you see a streak, you will know if it is inside or out. To keep frost off windows, add 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol or anti-freeze to each quart of water used. Rub the inside of windows with a sponge that has been dipped in the rubbing alcohol of anti-freeze. Polish with newspapers or paper towels. Sticky Windows Eliminate sticky windows by dipping a small brush in petroleum jelly and paint it on the inside molding once a year. Cleaning Bathroom Window Use lint-free cloths or a squeegee to wash windows inside and out. Dust the sill. Vacuum the window well. Cleaning Window Sills To clean window sills, pour a little diluted rubbing alcohol on a cloth and rub the entire surface. The spots will disappear and the sills will look freshly painted. Homemade Window Glass Cleaner 1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water (or 2 tablespoons per quart) OR OR Mirrors Remove hair spray from a mirror with a little rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth. Removing Water And Chemical Stains From Glass Spray a thin coat of oven cleaner on the glass and leave for about an hour. Wipe off with a damp rag. Warning: don't use this process on cut or engraved glass. Glass Table Tops Clean by rubbing with a little lemon juice, dry with paper towels and polish with newspaper for a sparkling table. Toothpaste will remove small scratches from glass. Cleaning Glass Accessories Glass flower vases, cruets, or carafes used to hold water, wine, oil or other liquids may develop stains in the bottom when allowed to set for a long time. Normal washing with soap and water may not get off all the stain. To remove these stains, try the following steps: Pour vinegar (brown or white) into glass so as to be above the stain mark. Allow to stand 30 minutes to overnight, depending on intensity of the stain. Before emptying vinegar, add about 1/2 teaspoon dry uncooked rice, or 6-10 dry bean. Shake glass rapidly so hard grains can rub off loosened stain with a scouring action. Pour contents out. Rinse with water. Repeat if necessary. If not all the stain is removed, pour ammonia into the glass to be above stain mark and allow to stand over night. Add rice or beans and shake. Repeat if necessary.
