How Experts Clean Toilets Squirt bowl cleaner inside and around the edges of the toilet bowl. Wet a bowl brush or swab and apply the cleanser to it. Start on the inside upper rim, work the brush in a circular motion, cleaning as deep into the bowl as possible. Flush the toilet to rinse. Instead, take a toilet bowl swab and thrust it up and down quickly in the throat of the toilet several times. This will empty the bowl. Then wring the water out of the swab and use it to apply bowl cleaner over the whole inside of the bowl, don't skip anything. Leave the acid on a few minutes and flush to rinse. Reapply, if necessary.
